50 people have been killed by unknown attackers in Burkina Faso
On May 25, an attack by armed men in the Madjoari commune of eastern Burkina Faso killed approximately 50 people as reported by Colonel Hubert Yameogo, the governor of Burkina Faso’s East region.
Yameogo also stated that the affiliation of the attackers is unknown and that the attack victims were traveling to the commune of Pama nearby. Two other attacks in the Madjoari commune occurred in May, one attack killing seventeen people and the other killing eleven soldiers.
In the past decade, violence from Islamist militant groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda has plagued Burkina Faso, killing thousands each year. The conflict within the country has spread to other African countries such as Benin and Togo.
An attack in Togo in May killed eight soldiers and wounded thirteen in a raid suspected to be carried out by Islamist militants.
