The current rental property was returned to the heirs of the original owners by a 2011 government committee after the Ghaddafi regime had expropriated the land from others in 1970.

At the time, Union Church had its own rental agreement, which was then confiscated by the government, and they were provided their current meeting place, which had also been expropriated.

The new owners submitted a court request to evict the church in December 2020. The church has sought to find an agreement by renting the building back from them for one year and then purchasing the property.
