Nuns’ convent damaged by Tatmadaw’s bombing in Demoso

Two days after a Catholic church in Kayah state was attacked by the Burmese Army (Tatmadaw) in an airstrike, the junta again launched another airstrike against a convent in the same township.

On March 10, 2022, the Tatmadaw struck a building, convent, and hospital of the Sisters of Reparation, severely damaging the roof, windows, and ceiling of the convent, used as a retirement home and hospital for elderly nuns in Doungankha village in Demoso township.

Two military aircraft bombed Demoso township around 6 a.m. on Thursday and the convent was struck, according to local sources. The convent is next to Our Lady, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, another place of worship hit by military artillery fire last June.

In the diocese of Loikaw, in eastern Kayah State, the Tatmadaw hit at least eight churches in air strikes.
