Tristan Azbej: Africa is a continent of challenges and possibilities

The 10th Hungary Helps Africa Expo Budapest was organised in the Hungarian capital between the 3rd and the 6th of March. Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program, spoke about the importance of peace and welfare in Africa from the point of view of Hungary.
According to Azbej, Africa is a continent of challenges and possibilities. Even though, when seen from Hungary, it seems to be a remote land, afflicted by climate change, shortage of water and food, and the growing persecution of Christians, all contribute to a high wave of migration towards Europe.
He said that besides this demographic issue, solidarity and fraternity also motivate the work of Hungary Helps to bring hope to the communities in need. He highlighted how important it is to help African people remain in their home country.
“We believe that the challenges of Africa have to be solved in Africa. Thus, we want to provide help by supporting the local communities”, said the State Secretary.
He believes that, with its international relations and humanitarian help, Hungary can reinforce these communities and contribute to improving their living conditions.
According to him, Afrika Expo is a gap-filling event. Through it, visitors get to know the ongoing projects and their results in Africa. There is also an opportunity to introduce those everyday heroes who work as volunteers or organisational representatives to help those in need.
