Coalition for Genocide Response webinar

On the 24th of March, the Coalition for Genocide Response organised a webinar entitled: “The Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations”. The webinar was held on the same day as the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims.

The event aimed to honour the memory of victims of gross and systematic
human rights violations and promote the importance of the right to truth and justice. The organisers
also mentioned that the occasion also aimed to pay tribute to those who have devoted their lives to,
and lost their lives in, the struggle to promote and protect human rights for all.

The speakers were: Lord Alton of Liverpool, Cross-bench Peer, Patron of the Coalition for Genocide
Response, the Member of Parliament, Alex Crawford OBE, Special Correspondent for Sky News
(Africa fi.) and Christina Lamb OBE, Sunday Times Chief Foreign Correspondent reporter.

Lord Alton of Liverpool thanked the organisers for the event. He pointed out that remaining silent
sometimes is a way of collaboration while speaking up is a courageous act providing a voice for the
voiceless. He expressed that he felt honoured to speak with a world-renowned journalist on the
webinar. Lord Alton pointed out that Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human rights is
continuously violated in countries like Pakistan and China.

Alex Crawford talked about her recent visit to Yemen and told a story of how they managed to report
on a criminal act that was later reported to the UN, which resulted in the perpetrators admitting
their crime. She mentioned the Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar to Bangladesh and the ordeal they
went through.
