Turkey and its allies deprive Christians in North-East Syria of water
Turkey and its jihadist allies suspended the water supply to Christian towns in North-East Syria.
It is not the first time, that water has been used as a weapon in the region, as Ignace Aphrem II, Syrian Orthodox Patriarch has written in his letter to the UNO.
For more than ten days, armed groups, which are supported by Turkey, have blocked the water supply in Hassake, and the surrounding Christian towns in North-East Syria.
The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan built a one hundred and twenty kilometres long and thirty kilometres wide security belt against Kurdish terrorists in North-East Syria. In practice, jihadists and Turkish nationalists are now in charge.
The lowlands of the Hassake region depend on the water supply from the upper border area. Turkey and its allies are taking advantage today of this border: in the middle of the dry season and while temperatures regularly exceed 40 ° C, they systematically sabotage the pipes that supply water to the city of Hassake and the Christian villages in the region.
According to the Syrian Orthodox Patriarch, this is a barbaric act, from the part of Turkey, which violates human rights, and affects the children, the elderly and the most vulnerable people of the region particularly.
