Gunmen killed 20 people in Eastern Burkina Faso

An attack on a cattle market by unidentified gunmen killed twenty people in the town of Fad N’Gourma, Burkina Faso on 6 August.
No group has claimed responsibility for this attack yet, but it is likely that one of the many violent Islamist groups in Burkina Faso conducted this attack.
On Friday, the local governor, Colonel Saidou Sanou stated that, “Unidentified armed individuals burst into a cattle market in Namoungou village in the region of Fada N’Gourma and attacked the population.”
Since 2017, Burkina Faso has been battling armed groups with links to al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS). Three months ago, gunmen attacked another cattle market in Kompienga and killed 25 people.
Due to all of this unrest, Christians have fled Northern Burkina Faso where they have been specifically targeted on a number of occasions. Christians make up the minority of Burkina Faso with most of the country adhering to Islam. Despite this, the country was known for its peaceful coexistence between the religions until extremist groups moved south from Mali. please pray for our brothers and sisters in Burkina Faso who are suffering at the hands of these violent groups.
