Christian family badly beaten in Chhattisgarh State, India

On July 1, an Indian Christian family was brutally attacked by radical Hindu Nationalists for refusing to deny their Christian faith in Mohanbeda village. An 18-year-old youngster called Laxman and his older sister (21 years old) were seriously injured during the attack. Their house was ransacked, and their land taken away by Hindu radicals.
Tunaviram Markham, a Christian from the same congregation, told International Christian Concern (ICC) how the entire village surrounded Laxman’s house and started throwing stones until they broke in and beat the family members.
“I came to visit this family when I heard about the attack on Laxman family,” Tunaviram said, “There was nobody to help; also, the police are not allowing outsiders into the village. It was pathetic to see the helplessness of the only Christian family.”
According to local sources, the family was experiencing a social boycott where Christians are not allowed to take nor drink water from a public hand pump. They were also denied any association with non-Christians.
The victim’s family had requested on January 14th that the District Administration investigate. However, they didn’t pay any attention and the police were seemingly biased.
As religious attacks against Christians increase in the region since the COVID-19 lockdown, three dozen police are patrolling the village. They are not allowing the Christian victims to meet or talk to outsiders. The police have even confiscated their cellphones.
