Ankara promises to defend religious minorities after Armenian church attack

Government officials promise to do everything to ensure inter-religious harmony and respect for minorities.

Turkish authorities have taken measures to safeguard inter-religious and minority rights after the Armenian church attack in Istanbul at the end of May, AsiaNews reported.

Communications Director of the Republic of Turkey, Fahrettin Altun promised to protect “peace and harmony between Turks and members of other minority faiths”, following the two recent attacks against Armenian churches in Istanbul.

The government is firm in condemning any gesture that could “undermine fraternity” in the country and that “all resources will be deployed” to deter any further episode of violence, he added.
