Pastor in Central India beaten for reporting previous assault

Tribal animists in Central India demolished a pastor’s house and drove him and his family out of their village in March. The attackers severely injured him in a prior assault earlier in the month.

According to Morning Star News, the tribal villagers in Khandwa District, Madhya Pradesh collectively  beat, choked and pelted pastor Lalu Kirade with stones on the 3rd of April. They also threatened to destroy his vocal cords when one of the assailants put her foot on his throat, the pastor added.

“They had sprung on me like a pack of wild dogs,”

Pastor Kirade told Morning Star News. “They told me to call upon my God to come and rescue me.”

The man who began the assault on him in March for refusing to abandon Christianity was among the assailants. In the most recent attack they beat and kicked him, pulled his ears, dragged him by the hair and uttered profanities about Christianity and Christ, besides robbing him of rupees equivalent to US$51, the pastor said.

Since no action was forthcoming by the authorities following the complaint he had filed in March at Pandhana police station about the first assault, the assailants had no hesitation in attacking him again this month, the pastor concluded.
