Offensive graffiti was written in front of a French church on Easter night
On Easter night, an inscription in bright red tainted the forecourt of the Church of Osséja in France. "This act only reinforces the reality of the proclamation of the Easter Rising which is addressed to men of goodwill: lies and death are definitively defeated," commented Father Christian Burillo of the parish of Cerdagne Saint-Roch.
The Mayor of Osséja, Roger Ciurana, was dismayed and outraged and filed a complaint with the local authorities.
“After the cemetery, we [now] go after religious buildings. It’s deplorable that some attack religion and degrade places of worship. The church is a protected place and that this inscription be made on Easter Sunday is an obvious provocation against Catholics,” he stated.
The mayor and his assistant, Rose-Marie Estéva, went to the site in the company of Father Christian Burillo. Technical services tried to remove the markings on the forecourt of Saint Peter’s church. Unfortunately, the aerosol paint had already dried hard, and a single solvent was unable to remove it.
