Anti-Christian violence on the rise in India

On the 15th of March, the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) released its 2019 report regarding the persecution of Christians in India. This includes acts of violence, intimidation or harassment. 

 

According to the Religious Freedom Commission of the EFI, 366 incidents of these sorts of persecution that target Christians were recorded last year in the country.

Uttar Prasdesh, India’s most populated state, maintains its position as the area with the highest number of anti-Christian crimes: a quarter of the incidents have been recorded there. This state is followed by Tamil Nadu (60 incidents), Chhattisgarh (32), Maharashtra (20), Jharkhand (18), Bihar (17), Telangana (17), Madhya Prasdesh (15), ke Gujarat (14), Karnataka (13) and finally Andra Pradesh (12).

In the first two months of 2020 alone, the Commission on Religious Freedom already recorded 40 incidents.
