Violence against Christians in India, 17 incidents in 19 days
In the first 19 days of January, 17 incidents of violence against Christians in India have been reported, says United Christian Forum (UCF), based on the records of its helpline.
“Year 2020 has begun well for those who like to harass the Christian community,” A.C. Michael, convener of the UCF, bemoaned.
The UCF is a national organization that documents cases of violence against churches and Christians in India.
All the incidents were recorded at the UCF Helpline Number 1800-208-4545 from nine states of India, Uttar Pradesh leading with six incidents.
One pastor was arrested. There was an incident of one physical assault. Five incidents took place due to the complicity of the authorities, Michael, a Christian leader, told Matters India.
There were 10 religious activities that were restricted by the authorities. Almost all were of the mob threat and intimidation and in one case there was damage to the Church property, he said.
All 69 persons belonging to Christian faith including women and children were affected by these incidents of violence.
