Nuncio to Syria is grateful for Hungarian Catholic Church’s fundraising
The Apostolic Nuncio to Syria, Cardinal Mario Zenari, has written a formal thank you letter to the church in Hungary for organising a fundraising for persecuted Christians through which almost 200 thousand euros were raised.
The donation campaign will help the work of Association of Volunteers in International Service and Caritas Syria in order to support the Syrian Open Hospital initiative, Hungarian News Agency (MTI) reports.
According to the statement of the Hungarian Catholic Bishop’s Conference, Cardinal Zenari emphasized in his letter the importance of this donation since 54 percent of Syrian hospitals currently are out of service or functioning partially.
For this reason the Syrian Open Hospitals initiative is of utmost importance for the people who suffered regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.
In the framework of Syrian Open Hospitals initiative within two years more than 30 000 people were treated and this number at the end of the third year can go up to 50 000.
It is also important that besides medical treatment, the program helps the peaceful co-existence of Muslim and Christian people os Syria.
According to the UN, more than 83 percent of Syrians are living under the poverty line.
