According to information from the Archdiocese of Abuja the priest was in the Uche Best supermarket in Gwagwalada, when a group of unknown attackers appeared on Saturday night.
In its statement, the Archdiocese asked people to pray for the soul of the priest of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Diocese whose death was “sudden and premature.”
The director of the Office of Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Abuja, Patrick Tor Alumuku, made a statement to Fides, a news agency of the Vatican. He said, the raiders “injured and killed other people too.”
The murdered cleric, who was ordained last year, was said to be the first indigenous priest in the Gwagwalada area. Local police are still looking for the attackers .
In 2016, the Pontifical Foundation, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) stated that Nigeria is one of the seven countries where Christians are most persecuted because of their faith.
The two Muslim groups that persecute Christians in Nigeria, are Boko Haram and the Fulani pastors.
At the end of June, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference asked the government to control the violent attacks of the Fulani pastors.
