Seventeen Christians were arrested during the commemoration of the massacre of Tiananmen

Seventeen Christians of the Early Rain Covenant church were arrested because they wanted to pray and organise a commemoration for the victims of the massacre of the Tiananmen square, in 1989.
On the 4th of June the above church attempted to organise prayer meetings at 7:30 PM and at 9 PM, to commemorate the massacre of the students who demanded greater liberty on the Tiananmen square in Beijing, in 1989.
During the service, twenty employees who belong to the religious affairs department of Cehngdu, interrupted the prayer service and arrested seventeen people, according to ChinaAid.
Pastor Wang Yi and his wife Jiang Rong tried to block the door of the office of the church. They and Li Yingqiang who was preching in the church at the time were arrested.
Other Christians captured were : Zhang Xudong, Ge Yingfeng, Yankui, Wen Guanghe, Liu Yingxu, Dai Zhichao, Ren Yifei et Li Chengju. Pastor Wang Yi was finally liberated on the 6th of June. On this same day, his church was accused of not registering the meeting in advance by the Office of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
