Hungary is sending emergency aid to the Nigerian Catholic community

Help where needed

The Hungarian Government gave the Nigerian Catholic Church three thousand dollars in emergency aid. This was announced by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in January.

As reported earlier, on Saturday night, the 14th of January, armed men attacked Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin-Koro, Nigeria. They murdered the parish priest, Father Isaac Achi, and wounded his assistant, who was later transferred to hospital with severe injuries.

The Hungarian Government offered emergency aid to contribute to the recovery of the wounded parish official and for the renovation of the parish that was set on fire.

The Hungarian Government has been supporting the persecuted Christians in Africa since 2017 through the Hungary Helps Program. Hungary has frequently supported Nigerian Christians in reconstructing destroyed churches, schools and houses.
