Persecuted Chinese Christians arrive in the United States

In December 2018, officials from the Chinese Communist Party raided Early Rain Covenant Church (ERCC), seizing and interrogating hundreds of Christians who attended there.

After the crackdown, ERCC members began to be targeted and harassed by the local authorities. Ren Ruiting, her husband, her parents, and her two young brothers, are among them.

Police harassed Ms. Ren’s family for seven months. They were continuously monitored and frequently interrogated. The Chinese government also threatened to strip them of custody of Ms. Ren’s newly adopted five-year-old brother, Jiawan, even after her parents had legally obtained an adoption certificate.

To escape the tracking and protect Jiawan, Ms. Ren’s family fled to Taiwan in 2019, where they lived for two years. The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan arranged for Ms. Ren’s two brothers to study in elementary schools. In Taiwan, Jiawan was able to obtain medical treatment for the fibroma on his arm, which required many rounds of chemotherapy.
