Breaking: State secretary comments on knife attack in Nice
State secretary Tristan Azbej rejects any sort of Christian persecution, including the horrendous attack in Nice.
Just in: A woman has been decapitated in a suspected terror attack in Nice, French police say.
Three people have died and several others are injured after a knife attack reportedly took place near the Notre Dame church.
Nice’s mayor Christian Estrosi tweeted: “Everything suggests a terrorist attack,” and the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar”. He told reporters: “The suspected knife attacker was shot by police while being detained, he is on his way to hospital, he is alive.”
The assailant was arrested after the Thursday morning attack and taken to a nearby hospital after being injured during his arrest, a police official told AP. The suspect was believed to be acting alone, the official said.
Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program commented the following on his Facebook account:
“We were stunned by the news, that in France, in Nice cathedral at least two person got killed. It is suspected, that the culprit was an Islamist and he beheaded a Christian lady.
This terrible tragedy is also an alarming sign that life threatening Christian persecution is present in Europe. In France, this hasn’t been the first incident: in 2016 Blessed Father Jacques Hamel was murdered in the same manner. We reject any kind of Christian Persecution.
Firstly we would like to express our condolences. Secondly, we want to confront those, who imported radicals into Europe throughout migration. We defend Hungary from that, and we shelter the Christians around the globe.”
