A crucifix was vandalised in Martinique
A sculpture of the crucified Christ, erected in Rivière-Salée, was defaced some days ago. Pictures showing the desecrated statue abound on social media.
The figure of Christ on a monumental cross located in the Carrefour Market parking lot in Rivière-Salée, was smeared completely with black paint during the night of August 10th.
A vividly coloured loincloth was attached to the figure which bore the inscription “faith kills.” A gag was also placed on the mouth of the statue.
Since the sculpture is situated in a bustling part of the town, many people could view the vandalised crucifix, said Benjamin François Haugrin, curé of the Rivière-Salée parish, to RCI.
