Mexico: Was there an assassination attempt against Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera?

mexikó, rendőrautók

On Sunday afternoon, the 21st of October, three unknown persons appeared at the Mexican residence of  Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, Archbishop emeritus of Mexico.

Three men rang at the door of the Cardinal, telling the policeman on duty that they had brought a parcel for the Cardinal. The men then opened fire on the officer before running off. The policeman died later because of the wounds he sustained during the confrontation.

The intention of the assailants is still unknown but police suspect robbery as a possible motive for the attack.  The Cardinal has however been the victim of previous assassination attempts.
