Hungary and Israel both find the Bible’s legacy important

Viktor Orban’s recent visit to Jerusalem was indeed historic because he is the first incumbent Hungarian prime minister to pay an official visit to the state of Israel, Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén said.

According to the Hungarian Christian Democratic Party KDNP’s president, Hungary and Israel both find the Bible’s legacy, national sovereignty and border protection important. He reminded that Hungary and the Czech Republic vetoed an EU resolution about denouncing the USA’s decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

According to Mr. Semjén, “neither the USA nor Israel is part of the EU,” so it’s none of their business.

Regarding Hungary’s embassy, he said that currently it’s not the agenda, Hungary is a small country that received much criticism in Europe because of its opinion. However, Zsolt Semjén stressed that it’s early to say when the issue returns to the agenda, but “it won’t depend on us”.
