Hungarian Budget: priority support for ecclesiastical area

Parliament debated the Central Budget of Hungary for 2019 on Thursday. It was noted during the debate that next year, Hungary would continue to play an active role in aiding persecuted Christians.

In the debate, Zoltán Demeter (Fidesz – the main Government party of Hungary) pointed out that the 2019  budget provides for continued economic growth. This will further reduce tax burdens on families and businesses and work-related taxes.

Within the area in the central budget for supporting  church services,  Zoltán Demeter highlighted further funding for religious education,  indicating that 3.1 billion  Hungarian Forint would be allocated to provide optional religious instruction for students. He noted that support for ecclesiastical public collections and public educational institutions had increased fivefold compared to 2010, thus providing financial support for Hungarian speaking pastoral workers in foundations outside of Hungary.

The budget specifically supports the infrastructural development of those religious communities that provide a religious or public service; it also allows Hungary to take up an active role in aiding persecuted Christians next year – highlighted Zoltán Demeter.
