Four Christians killed in Central Nigeria

Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed four Christians this month so far in Benue State. There were two attacks targeting Christian villages. These were carried out by armed herdsmen and left four Christians dead and many more wounded.

A group of armed Fulni herdsmen carried out an attack on the village of Ayilamo in Logo County, Benue State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, October 9. According to sources, the herdsmen attacked the village at night, killing two and wounding many more. One of the people killed was a university student who spent his break back in the village. One of the villagers said to Christian Daily International-Morningstar News that

Fulani herdsmen have taken over our ancestral lands; we are therefore calling on the Nigerian government to quickly intervene here in the Ayilamo area of Benue State in order to end these unprovoked attacks on us.”

Earlier on this month, on October 3, another attack was carried out by Fulani herdsmen. In Tse Wende village, Kwande County, Benue State, herdsmen attacked the Christian villagers, wounding many and killing two of them.

These kinds of attacks are not a rare occurrence in Nigeria. There are millions of Fulani herdsmen in the Sahel region and Nigeria, who are mainly peaceful herders, but some of them adopted extremist Islamist views and often attacked Christian communities and farmers, killing them and taking their lands away.
