Christian evangelist severely beaten in Uganda
Two Christians were going house-to-house evangelizing when a local Islamist leader agitated and ordered a mob of extremists to attack the Christians. One of them successfully escaped, but the other Christian was severely beaten and hospitalized.
Two Christian men, Eriot and Mukisa, were going house-to-house evangelizing outside of Busia town, Busia district, Uganda. At one house, they asked the watchman guarding the property to let them in. After they received the permission to enter, they started to share the gospel with the watchman. Unfortunately, the property that the duo was let in belonged to a local Islamic leader, Sheikh Kalimu. When the Islamic leader found out that the Christians were sharing their faith, he called upon nearby Muslims to stop them.
“Sheikh Kalimu who was inside the house heard our conversation – he was angered and came out furiously. He ordered his boys and other Muslims who had come for Islamic fellowship to come out of the room and to discipline us.”
Mukisa recalled the incident in an interview with Morning Star News. As the gate was closed, the only way to get away from the attackers was climbing through the fence, he added. Mukisa successfully managed to climb over the fence and escape, but the mob caught Eriot and beat him. The escaped Christian shouted for help, and the local community leader arrived with other locals. They managed to force their way to save Eriot. According to Mukisa, when they arrived, Eriot was laying on the ground bleeding. He suffered multiple injuries on his head, arms, and legs. The attack was reported to the authorities.
The wife of Eriot spoke about the incident and expressed her despair about the state of her husband and family. As Eriot is bound to be hospitalized for a longer period, his wife is left alone to take care of their six children and all the medical expenses.
