Persecution of Christians spotlighted at Lausanne 4
Since the first Lausanne Congress in 1974, church leaders' concern for Christians enduring persecution for their faith has grown significantly. At the fourth Congress on Wednesday, much of an entire day and night was dedicated to the issue of persecution.
The link between evangelization and persecution was evident. Christian leaders and speakers addressing the topic emphasized the crucial role of discipleship, both for and by those who suffer for their faith.
A Nigerian Christian leader spoke at the Congress on World Evangelization, attended by 5,200 Christians from across the globe, noting that one of the challenges of persecution is the temptation to adopt a syncretic faith compromised by corruption and false idols.
Rev. Gideon Para-Mallam, executive director of the Para-Mallam Peace Foundation in Jos, referenced a previous caution raised by Rev. Patrick Fung, global ambassador of OMF International.
