Persecuted Christian youth participating in the Hungarian flood defense
Hungary Helps program supports persecuted or crisis area-originating Christian youth studying in Hungary, who volunteer on the embankments for flood defense as an expression of their gratitude towards Hungarians.
Under the Hungary Helps Program, we have delivered support from the Hungarian people to more than two million suffering individuals,” said Tristan Azbej, the State Secretary responsible for persecuted Christians, adding that through their program named Scholarship Program for Christian Youth, they enable hundreds of Christian youth from crisis zones to study in Hungary and, upon returning home, strengthen their communities.
“These young people and their communities consider this program an exceptional opportunity, and they are very grateful to Hungary. They felt that now, when our country faces an emergency due to the flood, they wanted to reciprocate our support in their own way and voluntarily signed up for flood defense. Their voluntary assistance not only represents their own communities but also shows that help, cooperation, and mutual responsibility extend beyond borders,” stated the State Secretary.
According to Tristan Azbej, it was touching to see how young people from Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, and Armenia, affected by the Caucasus conflict and attacked by extremists because of their faith, worked shoulder to shoulder with Hungarians, packing sandbags and strengthening embankments during the flood defense, to help protect our homes.
“This cooperation is significant not only because of the physical labor involved but also because it has made them part of the solidarity that demonstrates the strength of Hungarian communities and Christian solidarity during times of danger. We sincerely thank them for this exemplary solidarity,” shared the State Secretary.
