Church set on fire in Northen Ireland

A significant fire erupted at the Parish Church of the Holy Name in Greenland, Northern Ireland, on Sunday, September 1st. Authorities are investigating the blaze as a case of arson, leaving the local parish community in shock.

The timing of the fire has added to the devastation, as the parish had just marked its 70th anniversary celebration the evening before. In a statement, the Church council expressed their heartbreak but also gratitude, thanking the fire crews, local community, and neighbors who raised the alarm, and acknowledging their relief that no one was injured.

Parishioners echoed the sentiment, describing themselves as deeply shocked and at a loss for words.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) reported that at the peak of the incident, nine fire appliances and 49 firefighters were involved in battling the blaze.
