Muslim herdsmen attack Christian farmers in Nigeria
A group of well-armed herdsmen attacked Christian farmers working on their fields. The attackers wounded four farmers who suffered different degrees of injuries.
On August 6, a group of Muslim Fulani herdsmen carried out an attack on Christian farmers in In Lwa village of Bachi District, Riyom County, Plateau state, Nigeria. The herdsmen were well-armed with guns and machetes and wounded four farmers in the attack. Three of them were working in their fields, and one of them was wounded while trying to escape.
After the attack, the farmers managed to identify 20 of their attackers as Fulani herdsmen living near their village. As a consequence of the attack, all four of the wounded Christians suffered various degrees of injuries. Caleb Bachen, a victim of the attack, told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News about the attack.
“Suddenly, I heard cries of anguish from other farmers who were working on their farms close by. I heard them screaming and calling for help. At this moment, I knew they’re being attacked by herdsmen.”
He tried to flee from his workshop to the relative safety of his home, but he was ambushed by the herdsmen.
“But as I made my way back home, some of the herdsmen who were armed with guns and machetes ambushed and attacked me. I lay there bleeding when they left, thinking I was dead. After the attack, I was rescued and taken to the hospital.”
He suffered serious injuries; he was shot, and one of his hands was both shattered and fractured. The local police force confirmed the attack and started an investigation into the case.
Fulani herdsmen are a group of Muslim herders predominantly living in Nigeria and the Sahel region. They consist of many tribes, but only a few of them adopted a Boko Haram-like Islamist extremist agenda and target Christian farmers. The tribes attacking Christian farmers usually have the intent of taking over their lands as well.
