Indonesian authorities prevent plans to bomb churches
A 19-year-old member of ISIS and his parents were arrested on suspicion of carrying out suicide bombings in two Christian churches in Malang Regency, East Java last week.
The young terrorist was detained when he had tried to get rid of evidence. Anti-Terror Special Detachment 88 Spokesperson Aswin Siregar confirmed that the suspect had been a supporter of the Islamic State terrorist group. He and his accomplices were planning to carry out suicide bombings using Triaceton Triperoxide explosives. These are also called the “Mother of Satan,” being one of the most powerful and dangerous bombs.
The suspect, only referred to as H.O.K, had been radicalised online through propaganda websites and social media. Apparently, he paid for the bomb materials using his savings from his school allowances. Authorities arrested his parents, also, however, they could not find explosives in their possession.
According to Aswin: “He accessed various sites containing recommendations or propaganda from Dawlah Islamiyah (ISIS). Then he also got information from social media, so that he felt like carrying out the suicide bombing. Densus 88 is still investigating the possibility of his links to other ISIS support networks. Indeed, there were several people who were questioned, including his parents or family. The parents of the alleged terrorist were arrested on their way to Jakarta on a train. This also confirms that there were no explosives or bombs carried by the suspect’s parents.”
