Nicaragua cancels the legal status of Christian NGOs

The Nicaraguan government canceled the legal status of sixteen NGOs. From these sixteen, ten organizations are either Catholic or evangelical Christians.

The government of Nicaragua canceled the legal status of sixteen non-governmental organizations. Nine of them are outlawed because they failed to meet the requirements of relevant regulations and for obstructing the supervisory and monitoring operations of the authorities.

However, seven NGOs voluntarily requested dissolution.

Out of the overall sixteen organizations, ten are either Catholic or evangelical Christian. All of the movable and immovable property of the NGOs now belongs to the state.

Since 2018, more than 3,500 of these organizations have been dissolved by the government.
