The tabernacle of a German church was vandalised
On the night of September 4th, unidentified thieves managed to break into the church by entering through a window of the neighbouring building and then gained acess via the shared basement.
They left with the tabernacle, the golden chalice inside it and two more boxes with unknown contents. Since the tabernacle is quite heavy, police expect that more than one person must have been involved in the crime.
The exact damage is unknown since it is not clear what the tabernacle and the chalice are made of. The local police have started an investigation.
This is not the first incident in and around Mönchengaldbach. On July 1st 2023 several sacred objects were stolen from a different church in Mönchengladbach. Similiar incidents happened in the same area in October 2022 and April 2017.
