Two statues of the Virgin Mary were vandalised in Chili
An unfortunate situation of vandalism suffered the Parish of Lourdes de Viña del Mar and the chapel Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Peñuelas in Valparaíso where both churches suffered damage to the image of the Virgin Mary, leaving as a result only damage to the sculptures without registering robberies of the local material goods.
In this context, Father Sebastián Vásquez, parish priest of the San Pablo de Placilla parish and of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Peñuelas chapel, along with lamenting what happened, recounted the events that occurred in the place.
“We suffered an attack against the image that we have within our community in the chapel of Peñuelas, unknown persons entered the temple opening the main door forcing it and destroying only the image that we have in the chapel. There were no robberies, there was no other damage, there was no desecration of any other kind other than the destruction of the image of the Virgin Mary”.
He added that the image is very loved by the community because it was acquired by a restorer in Santiago since it is a wooden sculpture of colonial origin and that it was also replacing the previous Virgin that had been stolen for its historical value, “the The Peñuelas chapel was founded in 1770 and the previous image had been stolen precisely because of its antiquity”.
On the other hand, in the Parish of Lourdes de Viña del Mar, unknown persons jumped the perimeter fence of the sanctuary destroying pots of flowers that were thrown at the image of the Virgin that is in the grotto, indicated the parish priest Luis Parra.
From the Sanctuary they regretted the events and called for prayer after the vandalism events, “may the Lord forgive these acts and deeply touch the hearts of the people who did it and convert them. Let us pray for them and our community, for the persecuted Christians in the world and the lack of God in the heart of modern man. They communicated through their social networks.
Likewise, in the Nuestra Señora de Peñuelas chapel, they made an invitation to a Eucharist of reparation to pray for peace and an end to violence, this Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m.
