Priest kidnapped and church security guard murdered in Nigeria
A church security guard was killed on Tuesday, March 8th, during the kidnapping of a Catholic Priest in Nigeria.
“The security guard, identified only as Luka, was killed in the abduction of the Rev. Joseph Akeke of St. John’s Catholic Church from his home in the Kudenda area of Kaduna city,” residents told Morning Star News. “The assailants killed another man in the predominantly Christian area as they shot sporadically while fleeing,” they added
Area resident Chinyere Onyewaku wrote to Morning Star via text message, saying, “These are challenges we face as Christians in Nigeria.”Nigeria is arguably the most dangerous place to be a Christian in the world today.
Last year, Nigeria earned the title of Worst Persecuting Country at ICC’s Persecutor of the Year Awards. Due to violent terrorist groups and government indifference, tens of thousands have been killed and millions have been displaced.
Sadly, clergymen are frequently targeted, kidnapped, and murdered in Nigeria. The government continues to deny any religious motivation behind the attacks and has recently convinced the U.S. Department of State to do the same.
