Christianophobia on the rise across Europe

Fr. prof. Waldemar Cisło, director of the Polish section of the Pontifical Association Aid to the Church in Need, emphasizes that the University Center for Research on Religious Freedom that he founded draws attention to the "growing phenomenon of Christianophobia or allergy to Christianity in Europe".

It adds that this is “a new situation we are dealing with.” Among the examples of this phenomenon, Fr. prof. Cisło mentions “a glossary prepared by the EU Equality Commissioner, where she suggested not to use the word” Christmas “.

The director of the Polish section of the Aid to the Church in Need emphasizes that “the lack of a Christmas nativity scene is an expression of the arrogance of the European Parliament towards Christians, which is part of an attempt to erase religious elements from public life”.

Fr. prof. Cisło explains that the year 2021 brought us closer to the implementation of the tragic scenario announced by Benedict XVI. In his words 50 years ago he said that as Christians we will have to get used to the fact that we will become a minority in Europe.

“One of the Protestant theologians in Germany says that by 2050 1/3 of 45,000 churches in this country will be closed, demolished or sold (…) Christianity in Europe is on the defensive” he sums up.
