Kidnapped nun released in DRC

A Catholic nun who was kidnapped two weeks ago was regained freedom in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The information was provided by the papal association Aid to the Church in Need operating in this African country.

Sister Francine is part of the local Resurrectionist Congregation. She was kidnapped on the way to the market in Goma. “She is very scared, but her health is good,” it was reported without revealing the details of her liberation.

Nine years ago, three Congolese Augustinian Assumptionists were kidnapped in the Butembo-Beni region (Fathers Jean Ndulani, Anselme Wasukundi and Edmond Kisughu were kidnapped in October, 2012). Despite the constant efforts of the Church, there is no information about where they are at the moment or whether they are still alive.

Four years ago, two diocesan priests were kidnapped directly from the parish church where they were celebrating (priests Charles Kipasa and Jean-Pierre Akilimali were kidnapped in July 2017).
