Islamists increase their influence in North-Western Africa
The most important representatives of the Mali government - President Bah Ndaw, Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and Defense Minister Souleymane Doucoure were arrested by the local military and transported to a military base in Kati, about twenty kilometres north of the country's capital Bamako. This is another military coup in this African country in recent months.
The attack took place a few hours after the removal of Sadio Camara and Modibo Kone – the ministers responsible for the military and security – from the government. They were most likely at the head of the military who carried out the coup.
It has been unstable in Mali for a long time. The provisional government was formed nine months ago after a military coup. He was to organise elections that were scheduled for February next year.
