Statue of the Virgin Mary vandalised in the pilgrim Polish city of Częstochowa
Last Wednesday night in the Holy First Martyrs' parish in Częstochowa (Southern Poland), unknown perpetrators destroyed the statue of the Virgin Mary that stood on the parish square. The act of vandalism is particularly painful for parishioners and is a cause for concern.
“The hands of the statue depicting the Virgin Mary were torn from the monument and thrown near the pedestal. In connection with the profanation of the statue, I plan acts of reparation on Friday during the Way of the Cross and on Sunday at the Bitter Lamentation service,” local priest Stanisław Jasionek explained.
We will pray for the man who committed this act in such a brutal way, full of hatred for holy things – emphasised the priest.
