Texas officially defunds Planned Parenthood
After a legal battle that lasted over five years, the state of Texas will no longer be funding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, through the state’s Medicaid program.
According to Hot Air, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Texas’ favor in November, after the Texas Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) found that Planned Parenthood had modified abortion procedures to collect aborted baby body parts.
Following that revelation, the OIG terminated the abortion giant’s provider contract, which officially ended on the 3rd of February. Additionally, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission rejected Planned Parenthood’s request for a postponement in implementation.
Every year, Planned Parenthood received about $3.1 million in taxpayer funding from Medicaid. An estimated 8,000 Texans use the state’s Planned Parenthood facilities annually, with Houston having the largest abortion facility in the United States.
