On the first day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Hungary prayed for persecuted Christians
Yesterday, on the first day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, organised by the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary (MEÖT), the Hungarians prayed for the persecuted Christians around the world.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international event, organised between the 18th and the 25th of January. During this week, Christians from every denomination pray together for the unity of Christianity.
In Hungary, the opening day was organised on the 17th of January, in Saint Stephen’s Basilica, with the participation of important political figures, such as János Áder, the President of Hungary.
Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, wrote on his Facebook page:
“The assassins of ISIS do not care whether their victim is Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox. They only care whether the victim believes in Christ. Now, when the extent of Christian persecution is greater than ever, our answer to the ‘ecumenism of blood’ is Christian unity”.
