There were green paintings and graffiti found outside the building, which is the colour used by abortionist activists.

The attack took place some weeks before the vote on the bill that legalised abortion in Argentina. 

“The Cathedral is an emblematic place of the diocese. It is an important building that is part of the patrimony, the identity of the town,”  said the Bishop of the Diocese of Merlo-Moreno, Fernando Maletti.

The bishop added that he did not understand this hostility against the Church, as the question of abortion is rather a question of morality than a question of religion.
