Twenty Catholic missionaries killed in 2020

Fides news agency reported that in 2020 twenty missionaries were killed in the world: eight priests, a religious man, three religious women, two seminarians, and six lay people.

 

This year the highest number of missionaries to be killed was recorded in America, where five priests and three lay people were killed.

This was followed by Africa, where one priest, three religious women, a seminarian, and two lay people were killed.

In Asia, a priest, a seminarian and a layman were murdered.

In Europe, a priest and a religious man lost their lives

In the last twenty years, from 2000 to 2020, five hundred and thirty-five pastoral workers have been killed in the world, five of whom are Bishops.
