A union of Evangelical Churches asked the government of Chhattisgarh, in Eastern India, to give the people the right to believe in Jesus, and to gather to pray in safety.

In a letter, delivered to a state ministry, the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI), mentions an incident that validates its complaint. On the night of the 22nd of September, an aggressive mob attacked sixteen Christian families in the villages of Kakdabeda, Singanpur and Tiliyabeda, in the district Kondagaon of Chhattisgarh. During this attack, seventy-five Christians had to flee their houses, and needed medical care, after being beaten by the attackers.

Following this, and other attacks, EFI demands the government to take immediate measures in the interest of the local Christians and provide security to every citizen. 

“We also want the authorities to guarantee that the perpetrators of attacks will be brought to justice and be condemned, in order to avoid this kind of atrocities in the future”, writes the organisation that represents sixty-five thousand churches in India.
