Venezuela: Church robbed but Eucharist left intact

The robbers tried to remove the golden panel of the tabernacle, but they did not touch the Eucharist.

On the 27th of September, unidentified perpetrators broke into the sanctuary of the Madonna of Coromoto Church in Caracas, Venezuela to steal some valuable objects. Even though they succeeded to remove the wooden door of the tabernacle, they did not manage to take away a golden interior panel that forms part of the housing.

However, the most interesting thing was that the robbers did not throw on the ground, nor take away the Eucharist. They respected the sanctity of Jesus Christ.

In a communication on the 28th of September, Fr. Jonathan González said:  “They destroyed the wooden doors and opened the Sanctuary. They did not touch the Eucharist, just tried to remove a golden panel from the door, but they did not succeed.”

According to some people, they did not touch the Eucharist because they knew what it was. Others believe that they respected the holiness of the taberncale, and did not want to profane the body of Christ.
