“Centre of Hope” reopened in Syria, after the coronavirus lockdown

The centre, located in Latakia, Syria, was established to provide programmes to children and adults to show them that Jesus is the real source of hope.

After the COVID-19 lockdown, public institutions in Syria reopened their doors to healthy people, if they consent to wear a mask in the institutions.

“Centres of Hope” have also reopened, and they are so popular that the programmes have already been filled, with many names on the waiting list.

The centres are receiving children and adults who are searching for hope with a lot of programmes to show them the way to God.

One of these centres, located in Latakia, reopened some days ago and reported about its functioning to Open Doors.

“The first thing what we did after the reopening was inviting everyone to our church to celebrate with us. We prayed and thanked God the possibility to reunite after the lockdown. Then we prayed with the children, and finally, we gave the people handbills about our centre. It was good to see the smile on their faces,”

reported the centre’s spokesperson about the first day after the lockdown.

The children were divided into two groups by their age. The younger children danced and sang songs of Jesus, and listened to biblical stories. The adolescents watched a Christian film and shared their impressions about what they had seen.

“On the first day after the lockdown, we provided masks and antiseptic to the participants. We asked them to wear the masks and disinfect their hands to avoid the spread of the virus. We are praying to have the possibility to receive more children and to show them the love of God and the good news of the salvation,” said the spokesperson of the centre of hope in Latakia.

Since the war in Syria, the number of Christians has decreased, and the remaining families are living in need. These centres of hope are contributing to the subsistence of Christians in Syria, and help them solve their daily difficulties.
