The campaign was launched in July, to help the people who suffered from the consequences of continuous Jihadist attacks in the region of Cabo Delgado.

The Bishop of Pemba, His Excellency Mgr Luiz Fernando Lisboa, says that the solidarity campaign “is growing because more and more people are becoming aware of what is happening in Cabo Delgado”.

Various institutions and civil persons have already participated in the campaign, including “a group of ladies in Maputo, a group of young people nationwide, [and] a group of businessmen”.

The diocese is collecting food, clothes, mats and blankets to help thousands of displaced people. The rebel attacks have already displaced over 250,000 families who are seeking refuge in other districts of the province of Cabo Delgado and the neighbouring provinces of Nampula and Niassa.

Bishop Lisboa acknowledged that the campaign aims to strengthen the actions of the authorities and other humanitarian organisations that are responding— to the humanitarian crisis.
