“Officials exceed the limits of their power” says Archishop of San Fransisco

The restrictions of the sanitary regime disproportionately affect places of religious worship compared to shops and entertainment centres and service outlets. The response of the faithful of the Archdiocese of San Francisco will be to hold Eucharistic processions.

On the 20th September, the faithful, starting from different parishes, will come together and pass by the town hall. “We will celebrate many open-air Masses in English and Spanish,” announced Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.

“The limit for entering the stores at the moment is 50 per cent, shopping malls – 25 per cent, gyms for management employees have also reopened, yet only one person can be admitted to the prayer houses” he explained. All Masses are now celebrated outside, even in front of the cathedral

Last Sunday, during the Holy Mass in the square in front of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the archbishop gave a sermon in which he spoke, among other things, about the need to show mercy and forgiveness to those who hurt us; forgive others as God forgives us. (…) Without God, there is no peace. Unfortunately, it seems that we are still going in the opposite direction, in our city, in our state and in the whole country,” Cordileone concluded.
