Ricky Martin compared surrogacy to the conception of Jesus
In an interview with the 'El País' Spanish-language newspaper, the singer compared the embryonic development of his children in surrogate mothers to the conception of Jesus Christ in the virgin uterus of Saint Mary.
In the interview, published on the 21st of June, Ricky Martin was asked if he felt attacked hearing the expression ‘renting a womb’. He answered:
“I don’t rent any womb. These great women have lent their wombs to me and helped me to found my own family. I put them on a pedestal, as I put the Virgin Mary on a pedestal, who has lent her womb to let Jesus come to our world”.
For the question, if he was religious, the homosexual singer answered that he did not have a religion, but he is open to every kind of life philosophy and adopts them to his lifestyle.
Regarding about artificial insemination, the encyclical letter Evangelium Vitae, launched by John Paul II, declares the following:
“The various techniques of artificial reproduction, which would seem to be at the service of life and which are frequently used with this intention, actually open the door to new threats against life. Apart from the fact that they are morally unacceptable, since they separate procreation from the fully human context of the conjugal act, these techniques have a high rate of failure: not just failure in relation to fertilisation but with regard to the subsequent development of the embryo, which is exposed to the risk of death, generally within a very short space of time. Furthermore, the number of embryos produced is often greater than that needed for implantation in the woman’s womb, and these so-called “spare embryos” are then destroyed or used for research which, under the pretext of scientific or medical progress, in fact reduces human life to the level of simple “biological material” to be freely disposed of.”
Earlier this year, in January, Ricky Martin was criticized for the video clip of his song entitled “Tiburones” (sharks), because the video featured a woman wearing a green scarf, the symbol of the “legal, safe, and free abortion” campaign.
“I want the women to have the right to do with their own body whatever they want. I will always defend this opinion of mine”, said Martin when he was asked about this clip.
His gay partner, Yosef, also caused controversy in 2017, when he published pornographic content on his Instagram site, that offended the Catholic religion. The drawing represented a masturbating Catholic priest.
