Another statue of Saint Junipero Serra has been vandalised

A statue that depicted Saint Junipero Serra was vandalised yesterday, the 22nd of June, in Palma de Mallorca in Spain.

The perpetrators inscribed the word “racist” on the plinth of the statue. The catastrophe happened following the destruction of another sculpture of the saint, in San Francisco, during a BLM demonstration.

Additionally, sometime before the attack, a feminist and LGBTQ activist, Sonia Vivas, wrote on her Twitter account that, in the name of equality, the Saint Junipero Serra statue in Palma de Mallorca should be removed. Although she stated that the removal had to be peaceful, her associates seemingly ignored her request.

Saint Junipero Serra was a Franciscan Spanish missionary, who contributed to the conversion of many indigenous Americans, and to the foundation of San Francisco.
