Series of attacks on Christians in Central India reported

According to Barnabas Fund, a series of anti-Christian incidents, perpetrated by radical Hindu nationalists, have taken place in India’s Chhattisgarh state in recent months. This includes violent assaults, threats, fines, and the prevention of several Christian burials.

In separate incidents, three Christian families from the Bastar and Dantewade district were forced to pay restitution by radicals before the were allowed to bury their deceased loved ones. The restitution was charged to these Christian families because the burials did not follow the “religious rituals of the village”.

The Alliance Defending Freedom India Trust said, “It is a terrible and unimaginable thing to be denied an opportunity to grieve the loss of a loved one with dignity.  We have reported 15 similar cases in the  last year.

In April, six other incidents of violence against Christians were reported in Chhattisgarh during the COVID-19 lockdown. In the majority of these incidents, physical attacks against Christians were reported after Christians refused to take part in local religious rituals.
